“Shut Up … Or You’ll Blow It!”
“I am Gabriel. I stand in the presence of God, and I have been sent to speak to you and to tell you this good news. And now you will be silent and not able to speak until the day this happens, because you did not believe my words, which will come true at their appointed time.” (Luke 1:18-20 NIV)
When Zechariah doubted God’s promise he started speaking words of doubt. “How can I be sure of this? I am an old man and my wife is well along in years.” He spoke about the obstacles not about the promise and the provider.
Gabriel’s response to Zechariah was significant: “you will be silent …because you did not believe my words”. Gabriel was protecting the promise of God from Zechariah’s words of unbelief.
The very least we can do is NOT work against God by speaking words of doubt and fear!
