What Has Happened To You? (Part 1)

After the last US Presidential election, the losing candidate release a book titled ‘What Happened?’ At the time, this was an excellent question. Very few people were expecting the election result to go to the now President Trump. The press, the so-called experts and the Twittering masses thought that former First Lady, Hillary Clinton had the election, pretty well in the bag. However, ‘what happened’ was a different story.

Likewise, with Australia’s last federal election, the Government had strung together a record polling losses. For years the opposition had been well in front. To top it off, two days before the election, one of Australia’s most famous former Prime Minister’s, a former leader of the Labor opposition party, Bob Hawke, died. The press gushed with glowing accounts of Labor’s notable achievements under the beloved Bob Hawke. The opposition basked in reflected glory.

The day before the election, the opposition published photo’s of their team, ‘ready to lead’. The evening before the election, the Labor campaign celebrated what they thought was to be their last day in the political wilderness by breaking open the Champaign bottles. However, elation day told a different story, the Government won with a slightly increased majority, and the Labor opposition went into ‘what happened’ mode.

Did you know, the Scriptures say, if Satan had known the effect of Christ’s death and resurrection on you and me, he would never have caused Jesus to be crucified?

But we impart a secret and hidden wisdom of God, which God decreed before the ages for our glory.  None of the rulers of this age understood this, for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. (2 Corinthians 2:7-8 ESV)

Satan thought He had us whipped for eternity by sending Jesus to the cross. But God had other plans- big plans - big plans for you!

Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come. (2 Corinthians 5:17 NASB)

God didn’t allow Jesus to suffer and die, for a modest benefit, for a slight alteration in our lives. No, what proceeded from the death and resurrection of Jesus, how it impacted on us, shattered the forces of darkness and amazed even the angels.

But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up with Him, and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus. (Ephesians 2:4-6 NASB)

You, I and everyone who calls Jesus their Lord, in God’s eyes, died that Easter Friday and rose that Easter Sunday. We became brand new, undefeatable spiritual giants!

Join us this Sunday to find out more of what happened to you!
