Returning To Your First Love
But I have this against you, that you have left your first love. Therefore remember from where you have fallen, and repent and do the deeds you did at first. Revelation 2: 4- 5 a NASB
One of the saddest things you will ever hear is, "we just fell out of love," or "we drifted apart". However, God's Word is very clear on this topic. Love, maintaining love, and staying in love, are significant subjects for God. He has a great deal to say about it. One does not simply "fall out of- love". When Jesus warned the church in Ephesus that they had left their first love, he wasn't saying they had fallen out of love. He was saying they had deliberately chosen to set aside their affection for Him and to place it on less important, less fulfilling things.
Paul told Timothy that in the last days, people (in the church!) would choose to love money, worldly pleasures and self and thus become cold in their love for each other and God.
Our affections will always follow what has our attention. Jesus told the Church at Ephesus to return to doing the things they used to do when their love for Him ran hot.
