Submission and Authority
Luke 7:9: "When Jesus heard this, he was amazed at him, and turning to the crowd following him, he said, "I tell you, I have not found such great faith even in Israel."
It wasn't often that Jesus was amazed at someone's great faith, but with the Roman Centurion, Jesus marvelled!
What was it about the Roman Centurion that caught the attention of Jesus? It was his understanding of authority and submission. The Centurion understood that Jesus was under the authority of the Heavenly Father and that whatever Jesus said, there was power behind it.
Jesus knew His authority because He was in submission to the will of His Father. Submission always requires humility because it requires one's will to be under the will of another.
Jesus humbled Himself to the point of death, and He chose to do it willingly. (Philippians 2) It was because He humbled Himself that God was able to highly exalt Him and give Him the name that is above every name.
God is in the exalting business, but it only happens when we first humble ourselves. (1 Peter 5:6)
Just like the Roman Centurion understood submission and authority, and in the same way Jesus chose to humble Himself to the Father's will, we too can humble ourselves and declare, "I delight to do Your will, O God." (Psalms 40:8)
When we humble ourselves under the authority of the Father and His plan for our lives, that is when God is able to exalt us and bring to pass His good plan for our lives.
Remember, we love you, and we are praying for you.
