Choose to Believe
Mark 5:36 “ As soon as Jesus heard the word that was spoken, He said to the ruler of the synagogue, “Do not be afraid; only believe.”
We will all face challenges and difficulties at some point in our lives, but the good news is that even though problems come, we don’t have to let our hearts be fearful. In Mark chapter five, Jairus received some horrific news about his daughter, but even in one of the worst situations a parent could ever face, Jesus made a statement that clearly explains the power that we have to choose. He said to Jairus, “Do not be afraid, only believe.”
We have the choice to believe; we don’t have to let fear be the determining factor in our lives.
In John chapter fourteen, right before Jesus goes to the cross and will soon be leaving this earth, He gives His disciples clear instructions; in verse one, He says, “Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”
Jesus told us to not let our hearts be troubled. He told us to not let our hearts be afraid. Through these words, He showed us that it is in our power to choose. Just because we may have feelings of fear or dread doesn’t mean that we have to accept them and allow them into our hearts. It doesn’t mean that we have to succumb to the fear and let it decide what we’re going to do. We have the authority and responsibility to guard our hearts. One of the best ways we can guard it against fear and worry is to, first of all, meditate on God’s Word, let His truth become the framework through which you view the situation, and then secondly, speak His Word over your life. We are to use the Word of God like a sword (Ephesians 6). When we speak God’s Word over ourselves, it cuts through the fear and worry and allows truth to reign in our hearts.
Here are some powerful Scriputres that you can speak over yourself:
Ephesians 6:10 AMPC “In conclusion, be strong in the Lord [be empowered through your union with Him]; draw your strength from Him [that strength which His boundless might provides].”
2 Timothy 1:7 “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”
Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
John 14:1 “Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me.”
Philippians 4:6-8 “Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice! Let your gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand. Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”
When we speak God’s Word and personalise it, we are using God’s Word to take authority over the fear that is coming against us. Meditate on these Scriptures, and write them where you can see them. The more of God’s Word that is rooted in your heart, the more settled and rooted you will be. Not easily swayed by the storms of life.
Remember, we love you, and we are praying for you.
Blessings,
