I Am the Light of the World
John 8:12, “I am the Light of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life.”
This time of year is the celebration of our Lord and Saviour and the wonderful truth that God the Father fulfilled His promise to send His Son, born of a virgin. When Jesus came to the earth, the course of mankind forever changed. We were once in darkness, full of sin, separated from our Heavenly Father. Shame, guilt, condemnation, and judgment were all we knew. But God! He had a plan already set in motion for our freedom since before the foundation of the world!
Isaiah 9:2 says, “Those who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who live in a dark land, the light will shine on them.” Jesus is that Light. When Jesus said in John chapter eight that He “is that Light of the world”, He was alluding to the Scriptures in Isaiah 9. Jesus made this statement right after a woman was thrown at His feet, accused of adultery and was supposed to be stoned, according to the Law of Moses. The religious leaders were ready to judge her and kill her for her actions, but when they brought her to Jesus, she was brought to the feet of mercy, goodness, and grace Himself. Jesus, the only one who could condemn her, did not condemn. Instead, He forgave her, set her free, and empowered her to “Go and sin no more.” This is the true Light that Jesus gives. Light exposes, but it does not condemn. Instead, light gives life. (John 1:4)
Jesus is the Light of the world. Coming to the Light is not something that we have to be afraid of; it’s actually where true freedom, victory and healing is found. We should run to the Light! Let Him reveal truth and life to our hearts so that wecan be healed and walk in freedom.
I want to encourage you this week to meditate on Light Himself. Meditate on what the Holy Spirit through Paul says:
Ephesians 5:13-14 But all things become visible when they are exposed by the light, for everything that becomes visible is light. For this reason it says,
“Awake, sleeper,
And arise from the dead,
And Christ will shine on you.”
Let Christ shine on you! Let His Light work in the deepest places of your heart; that’s where you will experience freedom from shame, guilt and condemnation.
Remember, we love you, and we are praying for you.
Blessings,
Chloe
