The Kingdom of God is Eternal

Daniel 4:34 At the end of that time, I, Nebuchadnezzar, raised my eyes toward heaven, and my sanity was restored. Then I praised the Most High; I honored and glorified him who lives forever. His dominion is an eternal dominion; his kingdom endures from generation to generation.

The declaration that king Nebuchadnezzar made about the Most High God is astounding. King Nebuchadnezzar was convinced that Babylon was such a powerful kingdom because of his greatness. He made a giant statue of himself and commanded the whole kingdom to bow down to it. Even in his own pride and deception, God was working in his heart.

It came to the point where God warned him in a dream of the consequences of his actions if he did not repent and recognise who the true and only God was. In his rebellion, he did not change, and what God warned him about in a dream happened. King Nebuchadnezzar became like an animal for seven years until he humbled himself and declared that truly, God Most High is the one whose Kingdom will reign and endure forever.

It’s important for us to recognise that everything that God does, His will, His purposes, and His Kingdom is the only thing that will last. It’s God’s Kingdom that will have dominion forever. The Holy Spirit, through Peter, tells us in 2 Peter 3:10-12 that the earth will melt with fervent heat. That means everything people tried to accomplish for themselves, outside of obedience to God’s plan, will be burnt up. 2 Peter 2:11 says, “Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives.”

Knowing that God’s kingdom is eternal should impact the way we live. Rather than living this life for ourselves and our own kingdom of wants and desires, we ought to remember and make decisions based on the truth that it’s God’s Kingdom, His will and purpose, that will stand for all of our eternity.

What a wonderful truth it is to know that what we do has eternal value when we live our lives for the Kingdom of God and His purposes!

Remember, we love you, and we are praying for you.

Blessings,

Chloe
