The Value of the Kingdom
Matthew 13:44: "The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure hidden in the field, which a man found and hid again; and from joy over it he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field."
The Kingdom of God far outweighs anything this world has to offer! In order to experience all that the kingdom has to offer, we need to honour and value the kingdom in our lives.
The man in the parable recognised the value of the treasure hidden in the field and was joyfully willing to sell everything he had to buy that field. He correctly measured the value of what he found versus what he currently owned.
Just like the man in the parable, we, too, need to correctly measure the worth of the kingdom.
When people think about the Kingdom of God, they often think that when they get to heaven, they will experience its blessings. But the Kingdom of God is not just about heaven; it is for us to experience right here and now!
Jesus said in Luke 12: "And do not seek what you will eat and what you will drink, and do not keep worrying. For all these things the nations of the world eagerly seek, but your Father knows that you need these things. But seek His kingdom, and these things will be added to you. Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has chosen gladly to give you the kingdom."
The world eagerly seeks happiness, and they will do all that they can to get it, but as believers, we're not called to seek after this world's goods; we're called to seek the Kingdom of God! It's in seeking the Kingdom of God that the other things will be added to us. But notice Jesus tells us, "Do not be afraid, because our Father has gladly given us the Kingdom." That means that all of heaven's resources, all of God's goodness, and His kindness have been made available to us. God has given it to us; it's up to us to appropriate what God has already given us. We do that by honouring His Kingdom.
The degree to which we honour the Kingdom of God is the degree to which we will experience His Kingdom in our lives.
When we correctly understand the value of the kingdom, we will gladly let go of other things that would distract us.
I want to encourage you to value the Kingdom of God in your everyday life. Allow the Word of God to dwell in your heart, meditate upon it, speak it, and act upon it. That's how we continue to value the Kingdom of God and experience it in our lives.
